The Internet of Things (IoT) has already become a big part of how people live, communicate and do business. Globally, web-enabled devices make our world a habitable place to live.

There are still many challenges to widespread IoT acceptance and a secure, functional device network.

From security challenges to high customer risk risks, these five factors are a major concern for the growth and development of the Internet of Things. Winning will be the key to building lasting productivity and prosperity through this amazing technology.

  1. Security

Ask any security expert about the 21st century heads and they may be bringing in IoT devices. The reason? In terms of cyber security, IoT devices greatly increase the “attack area,” or the number of potential cyber criminals to gain access to a secure network .Cybercriminals don’t have to break the plastic space of the IoT device to access sensitive objects. They can simply fine-tune their way through one of the many security problems found throughout IoT. Many IoT devices with default passwords are left unchanged, uninstalled software and other serious security risks.

Another common feature of new technologies is that state law often takes a long time to acquire the current state of technology. With the fast-paced daily occurrence of IoT, the government is taking its time to catch up and businesses are often left without the important information they need to make decisions. The lack of strict IoT regulations is a big part of why IoT remains a major security risk, and the problem could be even worse as the potential attack area could include more important devices. However, as more and more devices become connected to these networks, they are constantly struggling to carry the load.

IoT can give you the ability to collect data over the network and use advanced analytics to get information and business opportunities, and reduce operating costs. Example: Select a sample of data about your top customers and key processes that support those customers. Divide what you can gather to form the first foundation. See how customers request your services and your general response. Do you just respond to requests, or by tapping IoT data, can you create new revenue growth opportunities?

  1. New ability to predict and perform

An important opportunity is the ability to predict needs before they occur and act accurately based on data from the IoT network. The data collected can be used to create historical patterns that predict and put you in front of problems before they occur. For example, manufacturer’s warranty and maintenance details may be combined with data collected by IoT to predict maintenance events. You may have the opportunity to provide customers with a value-added service.

  1. Improve monitoring

With IoT, sensors and smart devices provide the power to manage a material network. Consider monitoring the many network components and infrastructure used by you and your customers. The data you collect from the monitor on the site may be updated with information about the hardware version, firmware version and location. Go beyond sensor data and see how that data is captured and transmitted, such as time stamps and error logs to improve network performance.

All of this new information provides opportunities to increase the level of conversation and customer communication. Think about your monthly income. Most likely, it gives you an estimate of what you can expect to pay in the next few months. Use that example and work with your marketing and business development partners to translate the IoT data you download into into models that will increase customer chat, trust and retention.
